Carl Phelpstead

Professor Carl Phelpstead works in two main areas: medieval literature (Old Norse-Icelandic and Old and Middle English) and modern medievalism. His particular research interests include: Icelandic sagas, hagiography, theory and medieval literature, and Victorian and twentieth-century medievalism.  He is the author of Holy Vikings: Saints’ Lives in the Old Icelandic Kings’ Sagas (2007) and Tolkien and Wales: Language, Literature and Identity (2011), editor of A History of Norway and the Passion and Miracles of the Blessed Olafr (2001), and co-editor of Old Norse Made New: Essays on the Post-medieval Reception of Old Norse Literature and Culture(2007). He has also published numerous articles on Old Norse, Old English, Middle English, and modern medievalist literature.
